As organizations from the federal, state and local branches look to assess the damage and help out in any way they can with the residents in Houston and the surrounding areas impacted by the damage, I wanted to see how we were shaping up in our legislative agendas across the country to see if states were equipped to handle these types of emergencies if they were to pop up in their state. On the program today, Karyn Bruggeman, Press Secretary of State Innovation Exchange and co-author of SiX’s End of Session Report, will talk about the legislative trends of 2017. This report examines some of the best—and worst—state policies that emerged from this year’s legislative session. While not intended to be exhaustive, it provides a clear picture of important progressive victories, setbacks, and major trends across the country, as we take stock and look ahead to 2018 and beyond.
