09-11-19 – For Us, By Us

The Charleston shooting was my aha moment. I was personally and professionally thrown into this, talking to survivors and family members. I thought of all the intersections of what happened when this person walked into a church and decided to shoot and kill nine black people. I have family in South Carolina; it could have been my family members. I started thinking how could gun violence prevention be a more equitable and inclusive movement. Amber Goodwin
Hey Fam,
I am so glad I am surrounded by a network of women who are social justice advocates. Women who are constantly pushing the needle for a just society is a blessing.
Amber Goodwin, Founder of the Community Justice Action Fund and Board Member of the organization Brittany White, are two such women who consistently advocate for having more inclusive spaces around the gun violence debate.
I’ll talk to them about By Design, a 12 month campaign to change the national conversation around gun violence, its causes and solutions, by putting the work, lives, stories and expertise of people of color at the center of the debate.
